The meetings of France’s organismes de foncier solidaire (OFS), or solidarity land organisations, brought together housing and land-sector stakeholders to discuss the development of the bail réel solidaire (BRS). This French mechanism promotes affordable homeownership by separating ownership of the land from ownership of the building.

Xavier Lièvre, partner at 14 Pyramides Notaires, took part in a workshop examining the implications of unsold properties developed under the BRS scheme. He joined Cécile Hagmann of La Coop Foncière, Vincent Moenne-Loccoz of OFIS and Marie Losset of Banque des Territoires.
The discussions explored the legal, economic and operational challenges associated with unsold properties, as well as potential solutions to improve the scheme’s effectiveness. The objective is to continue adapting professional practices in support of sustainable access to homeownership.
Other workshops addressed related issues, including the resale of BRS properties, compensation clauses in BRS contracts, the role of OFS organisations within co-owned buildings, business-oriented BRS arrangements and alternative forms of housing.
Through its contribution to these discussions, 14 Pyramides Notaires reaffirms its interest in developments in real estate law and collective initiatives designed to provide housing solutions that respond to the needs of residents and local communities.
